Arteche implements the Control and Protection System of Europe's Largest Photovoltaic Plant

The Arteche Group has participated in the integration of the substations of the La Mula Photovoltaic Plant in Murcia (Spain). This plant is the largest solar park in Europe, with a capacity of 494 MW and covering just under 2,500 acres (almost 1,000 hectares) of land.

The turnkey project included the engineering, supply, and commissioning of the substation's control, protection, measurement, and communication system.

Arteche IEC 61850 Substation Automation Systems (SAS), which incorporate the saTECH range of equipment, were used for this process.

In addition, Arteche has contributed to the project its considerable expertise in power quality as a result of more than 30 years' experience implementing projects in over 30 countries. Thus, 25 MVAr capacitor banks were supplied to comply with the grid code.

Lastly, 420 kV instrument transformers were also supplied for the La Mula substation project.

The 500 MW capacity of this project accounts for close to 10% of all the photovoltaic power installed in Spain, enough to supply electricity to a city of half a million inhabitants.
