Arteche implements a new capacitive circuit connection system with transient mitigation, the PQ-Switch, and integrates this solution within its production capabilities in Spain, minimizing the impact of the connection of traditional capacitor banks in the power electronics equipment of the park

  • PQ-Switch is being used for the first time in the Talayuela II plant (Cáceres), opening new avenues of collaboration for Arteche's future projects with its customer Statkraft
From this plant, enough energy is generated to supply the annual consumption of about 34,000 families with clean, indigenous and affordable energy, avoiding the emission of more than 20,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year

Arteche expands its range of products within the grid reliability and Power Quality for grid connection of renewables with PQ-Switch, a new solution that is integrated into the capacitor banks of the different power generation plants and acts as a circuit breaker with external pre-insertion resistor.

Arteche PQ Switch

This solution, which is being used for the first time in the recently inaugurated Talayuela II plant (Cáceres), opens new avenues of collaboration for Arteche's future projects with its customer Statkraft, Europe's leading renewable energy producer.

José Miguel Ferrer, general manager of Statkraft in Spain, commented that "we are very pleased to have been able to count on Arteche's technology in the development of this innovative project, which provides greater efficiency and security in the quality of supply. This is one more example of the leading companies that we have in Spain working in the entire renewable energy value chain and with which Statkraft always seeks to partner".

For his part, Tomás Solis, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer of Arteche, pointed out that "by being part of the Talayuela II project, Arteche, in addition to opening new commercial avenues, has managed to take another step forward in our goal of providing efficient, reliable and quality energy to end users". He also stressed that "Arteche's PQ-Switch represents a key solution in the growth of the grid reliability and power quality business, in a sector context of commitment to renewable energies".

It should be noted that this photovoltaic plant, which has an installed capacity of 55.2 MWp, generates enough energy to supply the annual consumption of nearly 34,000 families with clean, local and affordable energy, avoiding the emission of more than 20,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.

A technological milestone that protects the integrity of power electronics equipment.

Traditionally, this solution was imported from Arteche's external suppliers. The Basque company has achieved with PQ-Switch the milestone of integrating this solution within its production capabilities in Spain, allowing the connection of capacitor banks in a safe way and, in addition, mitigating the generated transient. Its functionality is integrated into the banks themselves to make their connection safely for power electronics equipment (solar inverters in the case of Talayuela II).

Thus, when renewable energy generation plants need more reactive power, the capacitor bank helps to meet that extra demand and also helps to comply with the requirements of the REE Grid Code.

With this milestone, Arteche continues to offer solutions for challenges such as energy transition and process decarbonization, strengthening its leadership position, through innovation, and as a key player in the international energy sector.
