Arteche supplies 6 Power Voltage transformers of 500 kV and a power of 100 kVA, the highest levels of voltage and power obtained by a device of these characteristics by the Arteche Group. These transformers will be installed in the first interconnection project in Chile, in a line with 500 kV of voltage with a length of 600 km that will join two of the main electric systems of the country, the Central Interconnected System and the Interconnected System of Norte Grande, serving large cities, such as Antofagasta, Iquique or Puerto Montt.

Red Eléctrica Chile, a Red Eléctrica Internacional subsidiary, and E-CL, an ENGIE subsidiary, have signed an agreement to build and operate the Mejillones-Cardones transmission line. This new electrical axis, with Arteche transformers that do not require maintenance during their long service life, will allow powering mining operations in the north of the country through hydropower and renewable energy generated in outlying regions. The main challenge of the Chilean electrical system will be answered in this way, guaranteeing the safety of supply and reducing the price of the energy.

With an investment of more than $780 million (more than 720 million euros), the project is already in the construction phase and its commissioning is scheduled for the second half of 2017.
